Oh, October. Like candy. This is my month, Halloween is to me what Christmas is to most people. Each day has to be savored and enjoyed, licking the last bit of wonderful stickiness from fingers. The candy of October…the taste of Halloween.
I’m up late working, working, working. Moving pieces around, getting things put in place. Flipping channels and Draculas on. The newer Dracula, Francis Ford Coppola’s version. I’ll take it. A bit of bad acting (some over acting)… Winona Rider and Keanu Reeves can’t deter me. I love the feel of that film, the costumes and the old style of the overlays. It’s a good one.
And I’m a sucker for Gary Oldman, always have been – jeez ever since I was a teenager. Just watched Sid and Nancy again the other day. It’s been a couple of years, but I’ve seen that movie a million times. So different from the first time I saw it, when it first came out. I’ve lived a lifetime since then…but I still got the same feeling when she pulls up in that taxi. Even though I know it’s a romanticized version of a gritty, dirty, sad existence, I love that scene.
So anyway, back to Dracula and October and Halloween. So Dracula ended and looking around Night of the Living Dead is on another channel. The old 1968 classic. Nice. Flipping again, American Horror Story. Settle on that for a bit. This is one of the great things about October, there’s decent stuff to watch on TV. At least until the 31st.
One of the best actors of all time! My wife sums up his Dracula performance this way, “He gives me the goosebumps.”
Oh yea, the creep factor is definitely there! And that bat…so knarly. I remember reading that during the scene when everyone (Keanu and the goody goody crew) was supposed to be terrified of Dracula during the part where the encounter him as the bat it just wasn’t working. So Gary Oldman pulled each one aside and whispered something in their ear, specific to each person and that did it. No one said what it was, but they all said it did the job, and then some. Also, love Sadie Frost’s performance as Lucy.
You’re right about the creep factor. I wouldn’t want him whispering anything in my ear that’s for sure. Thanks for the additional insights regarding the behind the scenes of the film. Sadie Frost rocked as Lucy. I don’t think this film gets the credit it deserves. Anyway, now I have to go locate my DVD an watch it.
Oh yea, it’s a definite “must watch” in October. I think I’m going to dedicate some other posts to favorite Halloween things…honestly, the month’s just TOO short. Have you seen Something Wicked This Way Comes? With Jonathan Pryce? Another Classic – the Perfect Mr. Dark. Ha Ha! I don’t even have that on DVD, I’ve got it on VHS! need to locate that on DVD for sure…that movie is the perfect fall film…and again, perfect creep factor. ! Oh, and Gary Oldman could whisper ANYTHING in my ear, ANYTIME!! HA!
That’s funny! I still need to see Something Wicked This Way Comes, but I’ll put it on my short must see list.
OH MY GOD!! DO IT! Check back in and let me know what you think. I’m thinking I may need to compile a favorite Halloween Movies List. hmmm
You got it!
Love October!! Enjoy, no…savor your month my friend.
Love Sid and Nancy by the way…man it has been a long time since I have seen that one.
Hey Beautiful! Oh, yes, savor is the word. How has life been out there? Bet the season is lovely in your part of the country. Yea, Sid and Nancy takes me back to such a specific place in my life…it’s so nostalgic! I’ve had so much going on I hate to say I feel like I’ve been neglecting the blog. But I’m back baby!! Have a great day! XO
WELCOME BACK!
I love the Fall in general! The leaves are turned and the mountains are beautiful. Start teaching classes this month!! YAY! Glad to see you back. XO
What are your classes about? I know you had told me you were going to start – that’s great! Fill me in
October 14 my mentor and I are doing a tarot class, sort of an introduction. Then I start a Quantum Clairvoyant 6 week class on October 16 th. We will meet on Tuesday nights for an hour and a half and go over the basics. We all start with grounding, symbolism, and understanding signs. After this series the attendees will then be able to attend the Advance classes on Thursdays. So…fun, and exciting changes!!! The 6 week class is going to follow the book Michelle Despres (mentor) just wrote, so we have a guideline.
I am nervous though that is for sure. I have been doing more readings lately as well. Change is in the air!! 🙂
